If there is a prolonged amount of clapping, after awhile, it will become unison clapping. Is that some sort of mathematical theorem I've never heard about? Keep an eye (ear?) out for it next game. Whichistomorrowat7. Uh. It's pretty freaky.

-Oh, Mr. Willis. May I call you Tre'von? Way to bring the D. Apparently the people I was with these past few games thought Drunk Guy was onto something and proceeded to use the nickname The Future. Guess I'll have to go with it.

-Why, helloooo, Oscar! I admit, he's a guy I don't know that much about. Or have heard that much about. And now I'm wondering "why?!" He threw up a few 3!s. Awesome. Oh, wait, what? There's MORE?! A dunk? Man oh man. I think we'll have to expect the unexpected from this fella.

-No Beas? I noticed, but it didn't bother me as much as it would've had other aspects not been awesome. Maybe we'll see him next game.

-I saw The Season (yeah, a knock-off of "The Future" nickname) flash before my eyes when Wink went down after he collided with a player on the other team. Oh my. Seeing him come back from the locker room (in one piece) warmed my heart. Awww.

-Oh, that new score board is nice. So are the ad things (technical term there) on the side. When the lights go out before the fireworks and it says "The Rebelution has begun"...Awesome.

Don't forget, next game is tomorrow at 7. It's 1983 time.

Let the games begin!

Ah, it's good to be back in the Mack again, with the fireworks, "Reeebelllls" chant, and drunk guys! Uh, wait, what? More on that at the end.

A few things about the Exhibition game:

-So it wasn't as much of a blow-out as we expected, but that's okay. I do have to comment on the "fair weather fans" that I was surrounded by. We're down by a few points, someone misses a 3!, and you say "You can't even make a shot?! So much for the Rebel-ution!" (Anyone else remember they increased the 3! line? I'm guessing that'll take some getting used to.) Then the lead increases and you're a fan again? C'mon, guys. Have some faith.

-After hearing hype about our new players, it was good to see them in action. Brice is surprisingly graceful (or so I imagined) for being the big guy that he is. Beas was a little awkward, but hey, I'd be awkward too if I were over 7 feet. Oscar had a few "Uhh, that was weird..." moments, and Tre'Von showed what he's capable of. I think given a few more games, they'll all find their niche's and work everything out. Besides, it's gotta be tough playing for a big crowd for the first time.

-It was a bit of a "sloppy" game (to quote the RJ), but hey, it's an exhibition. I'm not worried. The new guys will get going, and the veterans will get their grooves back.

-Back to the drunk guy thing, seriously, you're annoying. Sorry if this is you (not really), but getting hammered from your two beers and then yelling "Tre'von Willis! The Future!" (among other things) during any silences is not a great way to make friends. Or keep the ones you have. I'm all for enjoying the game, but let the people around you do so too. Please pause as I climb down from my soapbox...Okay.

On that note, The Rebel-ution has begun...

Now the wait for the REBELution

So in a perfect world, this blog would have some kind of point, something to make it cohesive and organized. But, alas, the world is not perfect, and so here's my buffet selection blog.

-I'm bummed about Matt Shaw's ACL. My sister tore hers and had it fixed in January and is just now getting back into her game. Maybe Matt will heal faster? Perhaps, but I'm not going to count on that. It's too bad too, because he really was stepping up the last games of last season.

-As of this post, we're 4-1 in Australia. I know it doesn't count until our actual season starts, but hey, it's still pretty cool. And the abundance of PlayaBlogs has kept me entertained for longer than I care to admit.

-The ad campaign that ran in the RJ was a lovely unexpected surprise. Nothing like reaching for the sports page and seeing Darger with "Joe Knows Winning". Kudos ad people, kudos. (To see actual pictures, go to JB's blog. Or the RJ.)

-We're #22 on Gary Parrish's "Ridiculously Early But Still Kind of Fun Preseason Top 25 (and one)". Now, I get that it's too early to tell, and it doesn't really mean anything, and blah blah, but still, I think it's pretty awesome.

-Oh, yeah, CoachKruger.com?! I swear, now they're just feeding my addiction.

So that's that. Anyone see how we pretty much owned Kent St.? Anyone see Rebel-doubters' brackets fall apart? Check, check, and check.

What a way to start off the tourney. It wasn't a close game, the only part that was close was the beginning, and even that didn't last long. We (yes, we, didn't you see me on the court?) managed to hold them to 10 points for the first half, something that hasn't been done since 1939. Yes, 1939, as in almost 70 years ago.

The Rebs brought their game to that, uh...game. And now we'll need them to bring it again, multiplied by 10, to the Kansas game. We need to cause Kansas to force turnovers, and then we need to convert those to points. We need all the boys to play their hearts out, and put forth their best effort.

Reading the RJ today, one of the quotes in it talked about the Rebels underdog mentality. And it's true. People just keep doubting, and then we prove them wrong. I vote that we do that again today. Just like the song, let's give them something to talk about. Go Rebels!

Let the games begin!

I was hestitant to write this blog, because really, there's nothing I can say that hasn't been said about our team, our coach, and our upcoming game.

I could say that Wink deserves a hat trick after dropping three 3!s, or that NeNe is Michael Jordan (not Dennis Rodman, ReviewJournal, shame on you). Or that Coach K has done what no one really expected (but a lot of us hoped). But that's all been said.

With that, all I can really do is wish our Rebels "good luck". Regardless of what happens, it's been one heck of a season to watch, especially after being told time and time again it was going to be nothing special. So show Kent State what you can do, and whatever happens, know that you've all made me proud to bleed Rebel Red. What a game.

-I wasn't at the game, and I am bummed that I wasn't. According to my good ole radio, the Mack has been De-Rebeled, with no fireworks (!!!) , but with the addition of a soon-to-be-ankle-breaker of a MWC logo.

-The final score was 88-89, which is practically unheard of (by me, anyway) for our Rebels, or moreso of the other team they're defending. And how did the scores get so high? It was like TCU found a genie that granted 3!s instead of wishes. My goodness. I thought it would stop after the first half, because, well, that's ridiculous. But nope, the 3! rain just kept fallin'.

-With that being said, my respect for the Horned Frogs, which wasn't all that high (see a previous blog for a picture), has grown tremendously. It was obvious that TCU played with everything they had, and it almost paid off for them. Well played, well played indeed.

-After some extensive research, I've reached the conclusion that "Matt Shaw" actually means "Unexpected 3! point maker" in a language that is a distant relative of Russian. Where did they come from these past two games? Know what? I don't care, just keep 'em coming, Matt.

-NeeeeNeeee. He was my pick for the Leslie Pool Supplies (once again, thank you radio), Player of the Game, but Wink beat him out with a little baby 3 play. (Totally kidding on that one). Seriously though, R-Geau is EV-ERY-WHERE. Even the announcers were remarking on it, albeit in the form of cheesy jokes--wait, who am I kidding, I live for cheesy jokes. Tangent aside, Nene gets things done. I really can't praise him enough. The guy was one rebound away from a Double-Double. (Oh, yeah, anyone catch his interview in The LV Sun? He likes naps, I like naps, yesssssss!)

-You know how some people have a signature move? Nene's is two moves merged into one, a hybrid of basketball, if you will. It's the "Steal the Inbound Pass and Then Bring Tt Home With A Slam Dunk".

-(My blogging was interrupted by my Dad calling and telling me the Rebs were favored by something like 11 points. Eh, so we didn't win by 11, but we won.)

-Wink Adams. I'm trying to decide whether or not the game being decided by a 3-point play that wasn't a 3! is irony or just pretty damn cool. Regardless, Wink did it. He so totally did it. Being quadrupled teamed? Not a problem, he'll get fouled and then lay it in. Or previously in the game, he'll get the ball knocked out of his hands, recover it in midair, and get a basket. I swear, he needs a Jock Jam to be named after him. Let's Get Ready to Wink? Whomp! There is Wink? Who knows, it just needs to be done. And soon.

-Why hello with the defense Darg. Oh, and a few buckets, of course. It's getting to be commonplace, it's almost ridiculous. (Just almost though, so feel free to keep it coming.)

-I think that's all of the individual stuff I'm going to mention, even though of course all of the other Rebs, did their thing as well. Good job guys, good job.

-Tournament play is way more intense than I expected (and I think that goes for a lot of other people too). Our boys need to remember that everyone wants to win as bad as we do, so we need to bring it. Go Rebels!

Sorry for the delay...

I was planning on writing shortly after the Senior Game, but apparently my professors are people who will allow you to enjoy Spring Break only if you happen to survive the week leading up to it. So this will be a miscellaneous, catch-up sort of blog.

-I didn't even have a very good recap of Saturday's game because I was so into it that I didn't put tidbits in my phone like I normally do. I think that game was one of my favorites this season, if not the favorite. All I can say is that Terry and Bailey deserved to go out big, and big they did. Way to go. (For a more in-depth synopsis of that game, check out JB's blog, the link is on the right.)

-MWC Coach of the Year, Lon Kruger. I'll be honest, I don't really follow the other coaches (does anyone?), so I guess I can't really be honest say he was the best pick. Oh, wait, the title of my blog page lets me do just that. He was the best pick. Daddy Krug took a season that was meant to be nothing remarkable and made it into something that was, even with the drama-drama of losing 3 players. Congratulations, Coach K, you deserve it.

-Now for my version of March Madness talk. Apparently there's been a lot of upsets, so teams that wouldn't normally go to the Dance are going, and then of course the ones that are still really good go, so because of the upsets, that leaves less spots. Or at least that's what I got when my dad was telling me this at 7 this morning. My brain doesn't function all that well before 8, so who knows?

-I do know that we're going to have to rock the championship. It's our home-court, and I'm hoping our boys want it bad enough to win it. Go get 'em. (" 'em" being BYU and New Mexico especially).

Let's get physical, physical!

To the UNLV non-believers, the 2007-2008 basketball season was supposed to be a bridge year, a year from greatness to not-so-greatness and back to greatness again. And really, in a way, who can blame the naysayers? We lost four of our starters, and one of our upcoming stars was red-shirted by the NCAA. So it's even more gratifying when this season's basketball team has the same record as last year's at this time, 22-7. It just goes to show what one heck of a coach can do.

For the game against TCU, I wasn't able to attend due to unforseen circumstances. I stooped as low as trying to bribe my 12 year old sister with food, and being a middle-schooler admist college kids, because hey, desparate times called for desparate measures. Too bad they didn't work.

It might be a good thing though, because I have more details than I would if I were at the game:

-Poor, poor Terr-Bear. He got cut up, stitched up, and threw some 3!'s up. Really, not many people can have five stitches to the face, and then come back and do some damage. Oh, but CT did. In the post-interview game, he said that he only has a few games left and wants to play as much as he can. Go, Terry, go!

-If Terry's injury didn't tell you, I'll state the obvious, and that is it was one physical game. TCU played down and diry, and so UNLV called it, and raised it. Finally the refs started making some calls though.

-Just like the article in the RJ said, R-Geau really does do everything. Wherever the Rebels need him to be, magically, he's there. He had steals, points, rebounds, whatever they keep stats of, chances are he had numbers in it. I think he's resposible for getting the run started during the second half, propelling it from a 3 point game to a runaway.

-Darg and his defense. Man oh man. Oh, and his offense is pretty damn good too, he finished with 15 points.

- Mr. Adams. Back to back 3!'s? Getting past three defenders to lay in the ball? Another 3!? Seriously, I think we should write the U.S. Mint and talk them into printing a 3 dolla bill with Wink and Darg on it. How can they refuse?

-Yeah-Bailey! He is a force to be reckoned with. At the beginning of the game, he was responsible for all of UNLV's 4 points. And he made his free throws when we really needed them.

-Shaw is a defense machine. He forced I don't know how many of TCU's turn-overs, but I'm going to guess that it was quite a few. Oh, yeah, the man can get rebounds too.

-Troy Cage, the somewhat of a mystery man. He played a few minutes, and got on the board with 4 points, 2 of those being from a slam dunk! Not bad at all, not bad at all.

-Ken-Doll had to step in for Terry after The Incident, and he did just fine. And later in the game, he had a wild one-handed jumper that found it's way into the basket. To quote the announcer, he has "potential." Lots and lots of it.

-And of course, I can't forget Mo, who finished the game with 3 points.

-The announcers were saying that Coach Kruger should win MWC Coach of the year, if not National Coach of the year, and I couldn't agree more.

See you at the white-out on Saturday, let's send Bailey and Terr-Bear out with a bang. And a W.

Kickin' some Az-tecs!

I'll be honest, it was an intense game, so much so that I didn't throw reminders into my cell phone like I normally do throughout the game. Well, no, that's not true, there's about three things I have, all occurring before half-time, with the last being "No sweatshirts for us." So I'll do the best I can with this one.

-This was one of the most fun games to watch. It wasn't a decided game until the last few minutes, and thank goodness, it was decided in our favor.

-Our defense was slam on during this game. And I'm not sure what's more than "slam on", but it was that during the second half.

-For example, Ne-Freaking-Ne. Anyone see him steal the inbound pass from the Aztecs? Oh, you didn't? No worries, he did it again!

-Betcha Billy White and that other kid wish they stayed in Vegas. Ye-yeah!

-My favorite moment of the game? Let's see was it when Terry threw the ball to Mo and Mo laid it in? Nahhh. Nene's abovementioned steals? Nahhh. When Darg hit the 3!'s, and then threw up the "3!" sign? Bingo. So freaking legit.

-Oh, and who didn't love the new Rebel video shorts? How does someone get on that, besides incredible luck?

-And as much as I would've liked the Cougars to lose, it's probably a good thing New Mexico didn't beat them. It would've made NM more formidable when we play them on their homecourt, and that would not be a good thing. So all is well. I guess.

-I love the plays that get the entire Mack on their feet. It's pretty cool to see something amazing happen on the court, and see out of the corner of your eye thousands of people jumping up and screaming. Makes me want to see that happen with the Mack packed. I think we can do it, so everyone go to the games. Be like Nike, and just do it. Go Rebels!

Phew, we're still in the game.

Saturday's game against Wyoming was a big one. Well, they're all going to be big games from here on out, so we'll just take one day at a time. (Yes, I said "we" like I have some insight with the team. Psh. I wish.)

-The game started off kind of shaky, we couldn't find our offense. The shots were being taken, they just weren't falling into the net. Of course, it didn't help that Terry had a groin injury and Darg was recovering from the flu.

-Wink! After having a few slower than usual games, he's baaack! What was his first shot, you ask? Why, a 3! of course. And a few after that? More 3!s. Double Double! Yes! Oh, and instead of taking an open shot, he passed it to a teammate, who layed it in, and got fouled, making it a 3 point play. Go Wink!

-Shaw...wow. He stepped up big time for this one. The announcer said he got a new tattoo a week or so ago, I'm assuming it's a lucky tattoo. Whether it be a few 3!s, jumpers, foul shots, or blocks, he was there, and he was doing the damn' thing!

-As we headed into the second half, Terry, Bailey, and Darg had yet to score. It wasn't all that reassuring, especially since we've come to rely on these guys for a lot of the baskets. A few minutes into the second though, Bailey made a basket, Darg hit a 3!, and then Terry hit a 3!. No worries, the boys are back.

-R-Geau was on his game, especially offense. I was kind of worried when he got fouled a few minutes into the game because of the BYU game fiasco, but that was needless worrying on my part. And how do you top off good offensive playing? A slam dunk, of course.

-Mo. His first shot? A 3!. Enough said.

--On a side note, I went to a Findlay-Prep game on Friday, and saw both Brice and Clarence Trent play. Things are looking good (like ridiculously so) with both of them. So we need to put the pressure on Trent coming to UNLV. I counted 11 people in the stands wearing Rebel red, which is quite a few in a crowd that didn't top 50. Regardless, the next few years of Rebel basketball are going to be one hell of a ride. --

So we defeated the Cowboys, and now we're gunning for the Aztecs, who according to my Source, beat BYU last night. It's a home game, so I expect to see the Mack filled. I mean really, what else is there to do on a Tuesday night? Yeah, exactly. Get there. Go Rebels!

Ugh.

-I've been lacking in my blogging responsibilities after this game, and for that I'm sorry. I just find it difficult to blog when we lose, even more so when it seems the boys weren't up to par.

-R-Geau getting 2 fouls within 2 minutes really, really hurt our game. I don't know if Troy Cage was prepared to be in the game so quickly, or for so long, and I think that showed at first. He had a few (very) iffy shots, but managed to step it up a little somwhere in the game.

-Thank goodness for Yeah Bailey! Who would've thought he'd be our high scorer in the big game? Not me. I'm glad he was there though, and I'm glad he brought his game, because offensively, we needed all the help we could've gotten.

-Darg! I believe he got a couple 3!s that we so very badly needed. So, so needed. 10 more 3!'s and we would've won...

-Terr-Bear and Wink? In order to have had a chance against BYU, both of them needed to be on their offensive toes, and neither one was. I was extremely disappointed in how lacking our offense was. We just kept missing the lay-ups, and that's not supposed to happen. Wink was so heavily guarded that I can understand his lack of points, but still, it breaks my heart a bit.

-I'd like to think that since we beat them by 29, and they beat us by 26, we win. A few people have told me it doesn't work that way, but at this point, I need consolation.

So all in all, with the whooping we gave BYU, we gave them something to prove. And then we stepped back and let them prove it. Here's to hoping we take out Wyoming with a vengeance. (Thank you Zac (and your Spell Checker) for the spelling help.) Go Rebels! Way too intense for my liking, I hate going into games thinking they should be fairly easy and having a multiple heart attacks when it seems to be the opposite.

-The baseball team should always pass out the programs.

-According to the RJ, poor Terr-Bear had the flu, and he still managed to play well. It just goes to show what kind of player Terry is. If you told me that last season, there's no doubt I would've scoffed. Now I can't imagine us winning without him.

-What a slow start the game got off to! It was awhile after the tip-off before anyone could put the ball in the basket.

-Yeah Bailey! That just might be his new nickname, because all throughout the game, it seemed "Yeah Bailey!" was all I heard when he had the ball. Each game he impresses me even more, it's like he's been hiding for awhile, and now pops out anytime a sweet dunk or alley oop needs to be had.

-The refs seemed to be especially sketchy this game. Of course we're always going to have a call or two every game that isn't in our favor. But with this game I was wondering if one of them had a kid on the Falcons. If you're gonna be harsh, be harsh equally. I'm pretty sure it's in the Constitution.

-Darg...I can't believe how far away he was from the 3! point line. And I can't believe he MADE IT! (I don't even have to specify, it's obvious what shot I'm talking about) To me, that was the turnaround for the game, the point where I knew I could relax (slightly anyway). Keep those 3!'s coming Darg, we're going to need them (and everything else) against BYU.

-There was a time (actually, probably more than one) when the Falcons had the ball and were forced keep passing it because our Defense was on. Our boys aren't shy about getting up in faces. Nice.

-R-Geau is still insane. In a good way, of course. A few times a few iffy things happened, but of course he made up for that with everything else he managed to do.

-Thanks for the energy boost candy bar at 9 PM on a weekday. I ate it (because I was in my car and it wouldn't stop looking at me), and I was awake until 3 AM. They work. I'm not sure the half-time show did, although I would enjoy a giant hula-hoop.

Saturday is going to be an intense game. From what I've heard, it's not looking too favorable (or favorable at all, really) for our boys. However, I also think that the Cougars' home record will have to break sooner or later, it might as well be later. If our boys want it enough, and work hard enough for it, they'll be victorious. That's what I keep telling myself, anyway.

400

*I wasn't able to go to Saturday's game, but Brian was, so here's his recap.

-First let me say I didn’t see the whole game, I saw the end of the first half, and then finished the game. (I had prior obligations)
But I liked what I saw. The first couple of minutes I saw great hustle plays. That was the intensity I expected coming off of a loss at Utah.
-Wink Adams: I’d like to break down this man into two halves. Half #1, lit it up on the scoreboard. 19 points at half. I believe CSU had 16 as a team. Half #2, an assist machine. Even though CT had more (which we’ll get to later), Wink got the whole team involved in the second half, which can only help us. I give you a standing ‘O’ for that.
-Curtis Terry: Career high 11 assists. He’s turning more and more into the true point guard this team needs. CT will do whatever it takes to help this team win. And he is the leader because of it.
-Rene Rougeau: Absolutely exploded in the 2nd half. I don’t know what else to say about him that hasn’t been said before. It’s pretty well documented how much of a fan I am of his.
-Joe Darger: Cooled off a little bit, he had 8 points, but it’s the other things he does on the floor that I’m really impressed with. The kid has matured more than any player on our team in my opinion over the last year.
-Corey Bailey: What can you say about Corey Bailey. His defense has been stellar all year long, and he’s found his groove on the offensive end. I know 4 points doesn’t look like much, but the screen setting and ball movement are phenomenal. Oh, and not to mention, I see him throwing down an alley-oop pretty much once a game now.
In other news, there was a Troy Cage sighting (future favorite), and even a Scott Hoffman sighting. Cage got a point but not much else, there is a bright future for him though. I really like the kid. Scotty got into the box score with two fouls and a rebound. He missed the front end of a 1 and 1 though, so he came away with no points. Kendall Wallace looked a little lost out there tonight, but he’s young, he’s got 3 more years to develop into the player we all know he is. Marcus Lawrence drove the lane tonight, and attempted a reverse layup. I’m really glad he’s taking a little more initiative to get to the hole and score.
I’d also like to take this moment to say that I totally do not approve of the “Fire Sanford” cheers during halftime when the scholar athletes came on to the court. Keep it classy.
And finally, the man they call Lon Kruger amassed his 400th win today. I would have rather it came against Utah, but it’s cool that it happened at the Mack. I’m really pumped for you coach, you’re the man!

I didn't see this one coming...

FYI, it's so much harder to blog about our boys when they lose. I feel like it's partly my fault, after all, I wasn't wearing my lucky sweatshirt. (Actually, I may have just made up the part about it being lucky, but I'm taking the blame.)

The lovely Rebels, trimmed in their "Road Red", just couldn't get one past the Utes. The Utes tapped into our defense (or lack thereof) and used it to their advantage. Laaaaame.

-Usually I hate math, but I think this is okay. Matt Shaw= 3!+3!+3!. (! is not factorial in this instance.) I have no idea where it came from, but I hope it keeps coming. Seriously.

-I'm not sure which Ute was responsible, but I guess they tipped the ball into our basket. Thanks, man. Too bad it didn't help much.

-Darge was hitting the 3!, and doing his best D on a guy who is way taller than him.

-According to the announcer (remember the radio part?), Terry was having trouble holding onto the ball at first. Thennnn, it got better, and he ended up scoring in the double digits, along with Dargey and R-Geau.

-RR was having trouble with the layup, but of course, perserved and finally turned on the heat. Good job. Is the left-handed layup going to be his trademark? I can live with that.

-Hello Mo! Stealing the ball and then laying it in? Okay, I can deal with that!

-Winky? Where arrrrreeeee youuuuu? The announcers were saying he was moving his knee awkwardly in the huddle. However, they were also admittedly 200 yards away. I hope it's nothing and he was having an off-night, we need Wink. A lot.

All in all, it seemed the boys just couldn't get on top of their game. However, even though it pains me to say this, for as much as we couldn't get on our game, the Utes were on theirs. The Reb's need to bring it (think the team that beat Kirsten Dunsts' in the movie) on Saturday against Colorado State. Pack the Mack!

Big game this weekend!

Not the one you're most likely thinking of. I'm talking about UNLV killing (slightly graphic, I know) the UNM Lobos.

-At one point, we were up 30 points. I feel like I should just end the blog here. 'Nuff said.

-That wouldn't be much of a blog though.

-How about Terry passing the ball to Bailey for a slam dunk? It seems like whenever there's a slam dunk, Bailey's the man behind it. I'll have to think of a sweet Slam Dunkin' nickname for him. Not now though.

-Marcus made me proud during his fight for the ball. He and some unknown Lobo were on the ground, each trying to hold onto the ball. And when all was over, and they both stood up, the Lobo was at least a foot taller than Marcus. You go Marcus!

-Ken-Doll played a bit, each time he gets playing time you just see how much better he's going to get over the course of his college career.

-Wink is insane. So, so insane. At one point in the game, I heard the guy in front of me say "if Wink gets this 3, he'll have 18, which is the Lobo's score right now..." He didn't get that 3, but he got a whole buncha other points. Seriously Wink, you deserve all the praise you get.

-I'm not sure where Terry was scoring wise. He did have quite a few assists though, so he was there, it was just more under the radar than usual.

-Rene. I was scared when he came down from shooting a basket, he had a look of intense pain on his face, but it was just because the ball didn't go in. That's okay Rene, you're doing everything else right.

-Of course I can't forget Darg, it's become custom for him to have a good game. I like that custom.

-As the first official participant of the Nationwide Crawl, I'm allowed to say it should be done away with. A free XL t-shirt isn't worth people you haven't seen in months telling you they saw you crawling around the Mack. I'm never going to live that down.

- http://www.abqtrib.com/news/2008/feb/04/richard-stevens-ugly-or-not-lobos-want-win/?lobozone-story-detail=1 <---Pretty much sums things up. But my birthday is in August, so I'm not entirely sure how that's going to work out...All I know is that the whole "AM radio" thing isn't the most reliable way to get the game. I felt like I was getting subliminal messages the whole time...and I'm pretty sure I'm right on that.

-Although, it is pretty entertaining to listen to the announcers keep up with the passing of the ball. I felt like I was watching that one part of The Replacements where John Madden is drawing all over the screen.

-I want mo' Mo (I couldn't resist). 5 points right off of the bat?

-I'm not sure where Darger was with the 3!'s at the beginning, in fact, I'm not sure where any of our 3!'s were. Terry didn't even score until the second half...what? Darg finally hit the 3!, although it seemed to take forever. That's okay though, better late than never.

-Ken-doll! He hit a few really good 3!'s, I can't even imagine what he's going to do for us in the future. Actually, I lied, I can imagine, and it's beautiful.

-Although these announcers weren't nearly as bad as last game, it made me wonder what the announcing qualifications are. I took two years of broadcast journalism in high school, can I have an application? Also, apparently the banks in Ft. Worth stay open later.

-Thank goodness when Terry is off his game Wink steps up, and vice versa. We can't afford for them to both have "off" nights. So I've decided that's just not going to happen.

-Wink was definitely having an "on" night, or at least an "on" second half. Just 3! after 3!. Hell yes. And according to my sources (Brian), he's now ranked 8th in the country for free throw percentage.

-Corey Bailey, I'm sorry I haven't paid that much attention to you in the beginning of the year. I'm regretting that because now he is scoring all over the place. Can you say SLAM DUNK? Or a change-hands-in-mid-air lay up? He certainly can.

-And of course, you can't forget Rene. I don't even know what to put here about him, just think of something awesome regarding basketball and more than likely, that'll suffice.

-One of these days I'll have to get someone to explain the whole "in the bonus" thing to me.

My boyfriend has started to call The Rebels my obsession. I'm not entirely sure why...But now we're 16-4, and it's a good day. I'm excited for New Mexico at the Mack, go Rebels.

Reeeebellllllls!

So I started listening to the game on the radio because, silly me, I didn't think to check Channel 67. Luckily my dad informed me it was on television, so I only caught the first 3 or 4 minutes on the radio. I was scratching down notes during the game of awesome things I needed to mention, but of course, they're not in any sort of order...

-Rene is a beast! And more importantly I LOVE IT. How about the steal he made? And then a few minutes later pounding the floor as the Aztec advanced toward him? He was all over the court (in a good way), stealing, and scoring, and blocking, and assisting. Anything good that happened, chances are Rene had some part of it. (Join the "Rene Rougeau is Michael Jordan" Facebook group!)

-Ummm Hi Corey Bailey! He's always been a sort of under-the-radar player, but that's not the case anymore, with his career high 15 point game.

-I adore alliteration, so Darger's Double Double is even more awesome. I can't believe we've had two double doubles in two games, that's insane!

-Did anyone else catch the sweet back-flipesque #32 of the Aztecs did toward the beginning of the game? I give it a 9.6 for it's gracefulness.

-I also enjoyed the 10 minute story from the announcers about Timmy (I think) the Guinea Pig. Or that Spain likes to sing Usher, and sang at a banquet. Awesome.

-As for the play of the game (according to the radio anyway), I'd have to say it was one hell of a play! Tied 69-69 with 38.8 seconds left after the time-out and Terry hits a 3! I'm pretty sure the neighbors heard my cheering on that one.

-Does San Diego really have the most expensive cab rides in the world? I'll have to google that one later.

-Oh, and anyone know what a bench warning is? The announcer couldn't say what it was either. Annnnyone at all?

-One of the announcers was saying that our guys are high school sized, and I do like when people say stuff like that. It just gives us something to prove. And today I certainly think we did!

-It was an amazing game to watch. I spent the last six minutes standing in my living room either yelling or flailing my arms around. That's a long time to flail.

We pulled it off in the end though, and now we're Number 1! Go Rebs!

Giddy up!

It's been a stressful week: classes starting, paying for books, the Rebels trailing the Cowboys by 10. Wait, what?! I don't think anyone was expecting that last part.

So, a recap. Wyoming scores, and then they score some more. And oh, wait, they score again. Our boys manage to catch up, and then Wyoming goes and scores again with those threes that this Ewing character kept putting down (or is it up?). We were down by 8 at the half, and I don't think anyone in the stadium, Rebel fans and Cowboys alike, expected that. Thank goodness after the half, Darg and Wink both get 3!s, and things get going, finally in our favor. It was close a few times (tied, I think), but we managed a win. As we should have, I'd have to say Wyoming isn't very good, it seemed like half of the time they couldn't hold onto the ball. So it's a good thing we won, that would have been a horribly embarrassing loss. As for Wink, man oh man. A career-high of 33 points. Wiiiiiink! Rene deserves major credit as well, it's not everyday a UNLV player gets a double-double.

How young is too young to start recruiting Rebels? I think a few of those kids who played at half-time have some potential. And I'm voting it as the Cutest Half-Time Show Ever. Awwww!

Another reason why I love the Rebels? Coach Kruger (or Daddy Krug or Lonny). Coach K simply has class, and after watching the Wyoming coach stomp his feet like a spoiled diva, I'm even more impressed by him. Keep it up, Coach. (And tell Kevin I said "Hey"...)

(And thank you to Brian for helping me with the counter thing, even though I'm pretty sure you're the only one who reads this anyway!)

Re-or!

For those of you who know the fine art of onomatopoeia, you'll know what the sound the blog title makes. But for those of you who don't know what that sound is, it's the sound a Cougar makes when it gets flattened by a Runnin' Rebel. (Seems oh so obvious now, doesn't it?)

Some might say we won because we had the home court advantage, and we had that, but I think we won because we have the better team. I don't even know where to start.

How about with Terr-Bear's (nickname courtesy of Sheleana) awesome performance? He just kept sinking the 3's! My favorite was the one with about 11 minutes left in the first half, and he was so far away from the 3! line. He shot it, the crowd gasped in fear, but it went in. And same with the majority of his other 3!'s. It just goes to show that when Terry is on his game, he's on fire. Good for you Terry, good for you.

I could also mention that it seemed everyone was in on the scoring action. Terry, Wink, Darger, Rougeau, Bailey, everyone! Even Lawrence got a few points. And if I'm not mistaken Ken Doll got a pretty sweet 3! as well. I was expecting it to be a really close game, but we beat them by 29 points! And by the way, I love watching the crowd when it comes to um, sketchy referee calls. It's amazing just how quickly people can jump out of their chairs in anger.

Orrrr I could bring up the fact that our defense was on point at tonight's game. Obviously I don't follow BYU basketball, but I would assume that they normally get more than 41 points a game. And it just goes to show that size doesn't matter. BYU's #44 was a beast of a man, but when it came down to it, he really wasn't all that good against us. Good job Rebels, you made us fans proud (yet again!)

On kind of a side note, I'm reading Tark the Shark's biography, and there's a passage on how he recruited Moses Scurry, and it was because he saw the pre-game lightshow on television. I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoys the hell out of those fireworks.

(Also, a thank you to JB for linking my blog on his. If you're looking for an excellent blog on the Rebs, check out the Master Blogger at the link on the right! )

As for the Cougars, na na na na...na na na na..., well, I'm sure they know the rest.

We'll get 'em next time.

I decided to blog about the Runnin' Rebels because well, I do love to blog, and I do love the Rebels. It seems like a good match. However, I freely admit that I'm not a basketball know-it-all. Or even a basketball know-most-of-it-all. Not even close. So if a play-by-play recap is what you're expecting, I'll warn you up front that you won't find one (although I do know of a good blog for that). What you will find is an obviously biased blog about Runnin' Rebels basketball.

The last time we played against Air Force, they were ranked, and they were also beaten. I remember questioning my choice of flip-flop footwear before we stormed the court, but then quickly deciding that a few bruised toes would be worth it. It was. However, Air Force this time around was a completely different story. My toes didn't get bruised, but my heart certainly did. In fact, the Toni Braxton song "Unbreak My Heart" comes to mind. What the heck? I listened to the game on the radio (always a good time), and I kept hoping things would get better. We made the first basket, but then things went downhill from there, and quickly. I don't know what was going on, but our boys just couldn't eek out enough points. Terry made most of the points, and poor Wink couldn't seem to get any of the 3!'s he went for. Bailey made what sounded like an awesome shot (remember, I was listening on the radio), you'd think the momentum would have been going, but no, the momentum was short-lived. And really, this Tim Anderson fellow? Where did he come from, and why wasn't he stoppable? 21 points in the second half? Not cool man, not cool. I think I'm done talking about Air Force, it just saddens me, much like the Arizona game. I think the hardest part about watching the Rebels lose is knowing that we have an awesome team that somehow, in some way, didn't reach it's potential.

I like things that make me happy, and the thought of next season makes me happy. I know it's a bit premature to be thinking of such things, but hey, it's my blog. Seriously though, I can't help but think what certain people who quit the team will think when we are National Champs next year. "Whoops, shouldn't have quit!" comes to mind, doesn't it? Next year will be glorious.

As for the BYU game, let's hope Daddy Krug gets our Rebels into shape. We need the boys to bring their game, we can't let BYU get the championship. We need a Win. I'll see you at the Mack.
